How can a slogan be classified as part of the best advertising slogans list? Having a good slogan for your brand is one of the fundamentals of branding. If done right of course! Don’t you think so?

But then, there are business owners who just don’t comprehend why having a slogan for their business is important. We live in an age of advertising where all brands, whether big or small, use a slogan to stand out.

So, what can an advertising slogan do for me? Think of an advertising slogan like a personal identity for your brand. A belief system that defines your brand’s personality. Slogans serve as a value statement, that highlights the core essence of the brand for existing and potential customers.

How are the Best Advertising Slogans Determined?

What makes an advertising slogan average, good, or the best?

Best advertising slogans are the ones that truly describe what a brand, or a company, stands for in the shortest way possible; something that sticks to the consumers’ mind and helps the product to stand out.

As I mentioned earlier, it should highlight what a brand exists for! It should convey what is it that this brand is in the market to do? Of course, every brand is there to make money, but from a consumers point of view does an advertisement slogan say enough?

Does it really tell the consumer what need/desire is this brand going to fulfill?

I’m pretty sure you get the idea.

I’m a marketing strategist by day. Marketing and strategy are 2 things that I enjoy because they give me the chance to do what I do best: think, identify opportunities, and connect the dots. By night, I love to inspire people to think big. I truly believe and advocate that every individual has the potential to go beyond what he or she thinks they’re capable of.

  1. One of my favorites recently has got to be Android – “Be together, not the same”

  2. Most of your choices are weak because 99% of people could not connect them with their brands. The best slogans are the ones that create an instant connection with brand, regardless of what one thinks of the brand. A slogan has to have cadence as well as meaning. I would cross out the following from your list: 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 31, 32, 34, 37, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 47, 48, 49, 50. You have left off many, many slogans that are far superior to most on this list. Here are a few: BMW – The Ultimate Driving Machine; HP – Invent; Coca-Cola – It’s the Real Thing: GE – We Bring Good things to Life. Some of slogans on your list are weak replacements of former greats. Nikon’s “At the Heart of the Image” is an insult to the majestic “We Take the World’s Greatest Pictures”, and where is Canon’s “So Advanced, it’s Simple”?

  3. Hi Sarosh,
Just discovered your blog. Lots of insights and relevant content in there!
Kudos and Thank you for sharing. I’m a copywriter in the making :).

It is clear that some of the commentators here did not even go through your selection thoroughly while others have no clue whatsoever of how challenging it is to make a product or service talk in the first place. That being said — I admit that several slogans in that list would fail a litmus test on interchangeability.

One I would add is VW’s “Das Auto”. Although scrapped for good by the WV group (and rightfully so!) giving the brand’s recent travails, it remains, IMO, one of the best taglines to emerge in the last decade. An example of powerful simplicity for any aspiring brand strategists to emulate. For those with a vested interest I recommend (re)visiting among others Seth Godin’s “Ogilvy on Advertising”.

Other slogans such as United Airline’s “Fly The Friendly Skies”, Procter & Gamble’s ‘”Once You Pop, You Can’t Stop” or the Last Vegas Authority’s ” What Happens Here, Stays Here’’ could arguably be right up there as well.
